UN Day Blog Reflection

1. Give a brief description of UN Day and the activities you undertook.

RLA: During our RLA section of the day all kids had prepared a poem to possibly share out to students who also shared this same schedule.
Math: We had to pick 4 people to save out of 10 by reading their profile. Then we each had a given amount of money selected by the average amount of intake in that certain country. Then using that amount of money we had to buy basic needs like food, water, shelter.
PE: Carry buckets of water around the track 2 times.
Science: Race to collect rice, water, medical care.
Food Festival: Eat different parts of the worlds food.

2. Choose two questions from the list below to answer thoroughly, using descriptions and detail.

  • What do you view differently now because of your experiences during UN Day?
I gained so much respect for the Women in Africa who suffer everyday to wake at least 2-3 miles just to collect dirty water. Because me and my partner, first of all we had a partner which means we split the pain in half but in Africa, theres one week women carrying a bucket weighing over 3 kg and walking double the amount we walked. Not to mention, that we only walked 2 km and my hands were trembling in pain. These women walk 3 miles everyday to receive dirty, harmful (undrinkable) water.
  • What did you like/dislike about the UN Day experience?
I liked how you could really get a chance to see what its like for many foreign people for example you could experience what its like living in a third world country and never having enough money to afford food while theres like these first world countries buying all sorts of food. Not to mention that so many third world countries always have the unfair root, wether its not getting the equal amount of money and working more or just getting less privileges.
